  • Total Testosterone

What does the test measure?

This Men’s Health Panel measures several key hormones that play vital roles not only in sexual health but also in overall body functions. Understanding these hormones can help you manage your health more effectively.

Cortisol is a hormone made by your adrenal glands. Cortisol helps you to respond to stress and plays a role in several bodily functions, including suppressing inflammation, fighting infections, regulating blood sugar and metabolism, maintaining blood pressure and helps control sleep-wake cycles.

DHEA-S is a steroid hormone made by your adrenal glands. Your body converts this hormone into androgens, including testosterone & estrogen and is a critical hormone for reproduction.

Estradiol (E2) is one of the main types of estrogen. For males assigned at birth, this hormone is made in small amounts by the testicles and plays a critical role in male sexual function, including modulating libido and erectile function.

Total Testosterone measures all testosterone in the bloodstream – this includes both testosterone attached to proteins, like sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG) and albumin & free testosterone which is not attached to proteins. Testosterone is the primary sex hormone for people assigned male at birth. It is mainly produced by your testes and impacts sperm production, muscle size and strength, bone growth, and sex drive (libido) amongst other important functions in the body.

Understanding these hormone levels can provide valuable insights into various health conditions and help tailor personal health management strategies. This panel is designed to empower you with knowledge about your body’s hormonal balance, contributing to a holistic approach to health

When should I consider taking this test?

This test is primarily designed for individuals who were assigned male at birth.

This test may be appropriate for you if you have had:

How do I prepare for the test?

For your sample, it is recommended to test in the morning when testosterone & cortisol levels are typically the highest.

Although fasting is not required for this test, many healthcare providers recommend not eating or drinking (except water) between midnight and when you test for testosterone levels.

If you are taking any supplements (e.g. DHEA), these may impact your results.
